How to Set Up IPTV on Android
Phone, tablet, TV box or Android TV — the easiest setup of any device. No side-loading, no MAC addresses, no faff.
Short answer: Open the Google Play Store, install IPTV Smarters Pro (or TiviMate), sign in with the details your provider sends you, and you're watching. About five minutes, and it's identical on a phone, a tablet or an Android TV box.
Android is the path of least resistance
If you've read our Firestick guide (unknown sources, Downloader, side-loading) or the Smart TV one (MAC addresses, playlist uploads), Android will feel like a holiday. The apps are simply in the Play Store. You install them like any other app.
This applies to the lot: Android phones, tablets, Android TV boxes, and TVs running Android TV or Google TV — which includes a lot of Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense sets.
Smarters Pro or TiviMate?
Android is the only platform where you get a real choice — TiviMate doesn't exist anywhere else.
Free, straightforward, works on everything. Xtream Codes login, VOD section, EPG. If you're not sure, pick this — and it's the same app you'd use on your phone and your telly.
The enthusiast's pick, and Android-only. Slicker interface, much better TV guide, proper channel grouping. The good bits (multiple playlists, recording) need the paid Premium upgrade — that's the developer's fee, not ours.
Decent alternatives if the other two aren't to your taste. Same login methods, same result.
TiviMate is genuinely nicer to use on a TV box once it's dialled in — but it's more to learn and the best features cost extra. Get running on Smarters Pro first, make sure the service works on your setup, and try TiviMate later if you fancy it. You can switch any time; the login details are the same.
Installing on Android
Same four steps on a phone or a TV box.
Install from the Play Store
Open the Google Play Store, search IPTV Smarters Pro, tap Install. On an Android TV box, do exactly the same from the Play Store on your telly.
Open and accept
Launch the app and accept the terms of use.
Sign in
Choose Login with Xtream Codes API and enter the username, password and server URL we send you. Given an M3U link instead? Pick Load Your Playlist or File and paste it in.
Let it load
First load is the slow one — it's pulling in 25,000 channels, the VOD library and a week of TV guide. After that it's quick.

If an app isn't in your box's Play Store
Cheap Android boxes sometimes ship with a cut-down store. Here's the workaround.
Allow unknown sources
Go to Settings → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources (wording varies by box) and enable it for the app you'll install from.
Install Downloader
Get the free Downloader app from the Play Store — same one Firestick users use.
Enter the link and install
Open Downloader, enter the APK link (message us for the current one — they change), hit Go, then Install.
Android problems, solved
Buffering on my Android box
Connection first, then storage, then the box itself.
Plug in Ethernet if the box has a port — it's the biggest single improvement. Otherwise use 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Then clear the app cache under Settings → Apps. If it's still rough, be honest about the hardware: very cheap boxes with 1GB of RAM will struggle with 4K sport no matter what you do.
"Invalid credentials"
Check the details, then the expiry.
Username, password and server URL must match exactly — watch for autocorrect capitalising the first letter of your username on a phone. That one catches a lot of people. If they're right, the subscription may have run out.
The app crashes on launch
Clear cache, then reinstall.
Go to Settings → Apps → IPTV Smarters Pro → Storage → Clear cache. If it still crashes, uninstall and reinstall — you'll just re-enter your login.
Black screen when opening a channel
Change the player.
In the app settings, switch the decoder or player to VLC or MX Player. Android gives you more player options than any other platform, so this fix nearly always works here.
My Android TV remote won't navigate the app
You're probably using the phone version.
Some apps have separate phone and TV builds. On a box, make sure you installed it from the Play Store on the box, not sideloaded the phone APK — the TV build is remote-friendly.
